Gregory Kavalec was born on December 31, 1945 in Pennsylvania. He studied for his art degree at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he received his B. S. M. Ed. Gregory’s artistic styles range from the realistic, impressionistic, abstract paintings, figurative sculpture in bronze, smoke-fired ceramic and traditional portraits in oils.

He is a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists.

In 1993 Gregory was selected by Mrs. Jonas Salk to paint the portrait of Dr. Jonas Salk for the Medical School Collection, Univ. of Pittsburgh, in association with Portraits Pittsburgh, Inc. And in 1994 the Dept. of the Interior, National Park Service of N.C. and the First Flight Society commissioned him to paint the portrait of former president George Bush for the Portrait Collection at the Wright Brothers Memorial, Kill Devil Hills, N.C. Many of his commissioned portraits are in the permanent exhibition at the Wright Brothers Memorial, Kill Devil Hills, N.C.

Mr. Kavalec’s artwork is owned by numerous corporations, such as, Bayer Laboratories, Carnegie Melon University, H. J. Heinz Company Corp. Collection, IBM, Standard Oil Corp. and Children’s Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. , as well as private collections.

Gregory has participated in various exhibitions and one man shows, where he has won numerous awards; The Katz Foundation Award, Association Artist, Museum of Art, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, PA. ; One Hundred Friends of Pittsburgh Art Purchase Awards and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art Purchase Awards.

Mr. Kavalec resides in Pennsylvania.
