My work is the expression of a lifelong love for animals, from a child fascinated with encyclopedia photos of horses, to studies in Animal Science and my own ever-present mélange of critters, I have always been a keen observer of habits and mannerisms, as well as developing deep friendships and partnerships with most.

This I translate into clay, not to record a static episode, but to play out the drama of life, the interaction of man and animal or a singular figure study. I look to the deep expressions, be it anger, courage, humor, or play - in eyes, stance, or the wind in a wild mane - to bring a piece of bronze to life for the observer. I seek to capture uncommon, though real, scenes, from the study of a stretching horse ("In The Stretch"), to the surprise double howling wolf ("Yellowstone Serenade"), to perilous river crossing ("Rough Crossing"). My work evolves toward expressionism, most often equine, and an embodiment of emotion in the form of muscle and bone. Caught in the turn of an ear, the swish of a tail , or the wonder in a child's eyes, the mood is laughing, courageous, haunting...

In addition to limited edition bronze, I've created a carved walking stick in the style of the ancient Dakota horse effigy stick, hand painted with a horsehair mane, and several unique hide castings. Other work includes logo designs, block prints, and small edition commissioned pieces for awards and presentations. With an extensive background in art foundry work, I do most of the casting process myself, and willingly customize for patrons.

At home on a mountain ranch in the beautiful Snow Mountains of Montana, I enjoy pets, wildlife, and livestock, riding the gaited Appaloosas I raise, gardening, and working with various animal preservation and minor breed groups. I also write for regional publications and am working on several book and illustration projects as well.

You see, the horses, the sculpture, the written word - all are permanently intertwined expressions of God's blessings. It is on that level that I hope they will impact the viewer's soul.
