Berge Missakian (b. 1933) is a Canadian artist known for his “Fluid Cubist” Jazz paintings; he  was born in Alexandria, Egypt of Armenian heritage and has been living in Montreal, Quebec since 1962.

Missakian studied at Cornell University, Ithaca, N. Y. and Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.  Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh, Tom Thomson, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro and George Braque, Missakian’s paintings always reaffirm the basic and enduring grammar of both Cubism and Fauvism. He creates whimsical landscapes, still lifes and street scenes, capturing the unique beauty and colors of the American and Canadian  landscapes as well as the throbbing tempo of Jazz; his signature style focuses on contrasting vibrant colors, strong cubist shapes with multiple viewpoints, bold handling of paint, as well as flowing and fanciful  lines; his work is improvisational and expressive with a variety of rhythms, life situations and exuberant allegories.

Through the years, Missakian’s paintings have garnered numerous solo exhibitions nationally and internationally and can be found in many private and corporate collections across North America, Europe, the Middle East, China, Australia, India, Japan, Mexico, Russia and Armenia.
The collection of his 15 paintings “Colors of a Genocide” is at the Armenian Library and Museum of America, in Watertown, Ma.

Two books have been published on Missakian’s work; he is also listed in “Who’s Who in American Art”, “Society of Canadian Artists” and “Biennial Guide to Canadian Artists in Galleries”.
He was also featured on the cover of The Artist's Magazine, March 1997 issue and the cover of Art Business News, June 2005.
