Janet Groom Pierce was born 1938 in the Eastern Tidewater area of Virginia. Her paintings are rather impressionistic watercolors and acrylics. Janet feels her excellent teachers/artists, such as Jack Clifton, Barclay Sheaks, Tom Waters and Ralph Smith gave her a valuable foundation.

Janet’s paintings have been selected to hang in many juried shows and have also won numerous awards. Before moving to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, she achieved Signature Membership in the Virginia Watercolor Society.

Painting in itself is exciting, yet relaxing for me, especially painting on location. I love lush color and bold lighting with unusual viewing or vantage points. Hopefully, I convey my love for what I have painted. Sometimes we analyze things to the point of missing their simple beauty.

“Thank goodness I have been around long enough that I feel I can paint what inspires me and not worry about the current ‘bandwagon’ might be”.

Janet now resides in Southern Shores, North Carolina.
