Artist note:
I visited a coffee shop and in their courtyard was a story wall. People painted their words and images on it. I love this idea. I love painting hard cold concrete next to living fragile leaves, and thinking about all the ways my life story is a little of both. The strength and fragility dance together.
The words are from stories we tell ourselves as we create our own journeys. Our words change as we write new chapters. The shapes and colors are bold and beautiful. We navigate abstractions as we live in a very realistic world.
These are the thoughts I had while I painted this piece. It’s one of my favorites.
