Father Dune

Lori Goll

Father Dune is a pastel by Lori Goll. The art measures 17 1/4" x 30" and the frame is 20 1/4" x 33 1/4".

The largest ridge of dunes close to the beach are called the Primary Dunes.  The dune face towards the beach is affected by the harsh salty prevailing cold winds, and contains tough, sparse vegetation and very little life, especially in the winter.  On the protected side of the dune, the vegetation can thicken and thrive and provide stabilization of the dune, as well as support wildlife.  This particular dune looked as if its great arms were protecting the plants nestled within, thus prompting the name “Father” dune.
