Flotsom and Jetsam an original oil painting by Debra Keirce. The art measures 4″ x 6″ and the frame is 5 1/4″ x 7 1/4″, frame included.
Flotsom and Jetsam is full of trinkets I purchased from Outer Banks retailers. I bought the porthole from Seaside Art Gallery. I think it was discounted because it’s got a patina and it’s missing some screws. But hey, aren’t we all? There’s beauty in the broken. That’s what this painting is about. That driftwood is more beautiful to me now than it was when it was one of many trees in its forest. None of us can stop time but sometimes I feel like I wouldn’t want to. I’d be curious about how aging would affect me, and the experiences I’d miss out on if I didn’t go through it. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure they say. I treasure the broken bits because I think they are more beautiful and tell a more interesting story.
