Imported is an original oil painting on board by Debra Keirce. The original oil painting on board measures 8″ x 10″ with the frame measuring 13 1/2″ x 15 1/2″, frame included.
So, this artist walks into a liquor store and says “What liquors do you sell here that are in pretty bottles?” The owner looks at like me as though I’m nuts. I tell him I’m an artist, so then he relaxes and it’s okay. He pulls out several prettily packaged liquors, and I key in on the green bottle that says “Imported.” You see, I’ve been doing a lot of overseas travel of late. I start to think about how a lime would be pretty to paint. And what if I mute the colors so it’s like that sour lime is so green you can taste it? And how about a nod to the Dutch still life masters I love, with the knife laying on the edge of the cutting board? And that is how this painting was born. I told the liquor store owner he could keep the gin. I just wanted the bottle. Did he have a water bottle I could pour it into? I saw him shaking his head at the crazy artist when I left.
