Keirce-Pleased As Punch

Debra Keirce

Pleased As Punch is an oil painting by Debra Keirce (Virginia). The art measures 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" and the frame is 6" x  4", frame included.

"In the 1980's and 1990's I worked for pharmaceutical companies, designing manufacturing facilities. I have always been fascinated by the way drug production and distribution has evolved over the centuries. My husband is a collector, and at one point he was collecting old bottles - the kind that snake oil salesmen sold out of the back of their wagons. But even into the 1930's, bottles like this one were full of elixirs that had "secret ingredients" and were guaranteed to cure everything. It's funny how nothing cures everything now that drug companies have to tell you what you are ingesting, isn't it?

Sometimes I wonder if we were better off thinking we could drink some punch and our hair would grow back, our ulcers would heal, we'd have more energy, and our fortunes would materialize. Ah well. It's pleasing to smell the roses I put in the old bottles these days."
