I love to sit and watch the wildlife on the Outer Banks beaches. i was on the National Seashore one day doing just that. A school of dolphins entertained me for the longest time. They may have been diving for food, or engaged in some other survival behavior. But that day, from my perspective, with a cool breeze, the smell of the salty ocean, the melodic sound of waves washing the beach and retreating again - in that moment they felt playful. They were oblivious of the things that humans consume themselves with. They seemed to be existing without a care in the world.
Don't we all want to live like those dolphins? Don't we want the freedom of a vast ocean inviting us to explore? Don't we want to swim with good friends and be part of a supportive community? Don't we want a perpetual smile on our faces and fresh sea air in our blowholes? I sat there lost in their experience, willing myself to grow fins.
