Sky High

As I was driving home to Virginia one day, the sun was setting on the Outer Banks, and giving this light show of yellows and greens and purples. I pulled off the highway and took photos. But in my hands, cameras are notoriously bad at capturing color nuances in sunsets. So I did a few sketches and made some color notes. This painting is my recollection of what I saw that evening. As all the other cars were rushing by eager to get onto I-95, I think I could have been happy sitting there watching and taking in the beauty and vastness of the sky for quite a bit longer.
