I love window seats on short flights. On long flights it's good to have the freedom to get up and stretch lots, but on short ones the view is always spectacular. Travel days are always more fun when I get a window seat.

I owe my window seat to The Wright Brothers. It's amazing to think that December 17, 1903 was the first time a human flew in a plane powered by an engine, from a sand dune in The Outer Banks of North Carolina. Less than seven decades later men were on the moon! Now we're talking Mars? Sometimes it feels like technology is moving faster than we can keep up with.

One of the things I love about visiting the coast, is how grounded I feel by the ocean. As much as things change, some things remain steadfast. The dunes may shift and man's goals may expand, but the ocean breeze keeps calling, the sand crabs keep scurrying, the tide goes in, the tide goes out. I can sit and watch those waves for hours, wondering where my next flight will take me.
