Sir Walter Raleigh, Reflections is an original oil painting by Linda Wacaster.  The art measures 12″ x 9" and  the  frame is  13 1/4" x 10 1/4", frame included.

As Sir Walter Raleigh views his reflection in the mirror, I am sure he is remembering the many expeditions he sponsored after being appointed Captain of the Queen’s Guard.  There was a total of 4 voyages from 1584 through 1590.   The books and drawings on his desk bring to mind John White and Thomas Hariot. Thomas Hariot only made one trip but, he wrote down everything he saw while in the new world.  John White, well known for his watercolors, drew all that he saw which included making maps as well as drawing indigenous people  in their lifestyle, as well as plants and animals.  These two men helped garner interest in the area and further investment for other trips.

Sir Walter grew very fond of one of the plants that was discovered.  They called it tobacco. He smokes it quite often in his favorite silver pipe.
