Ananias and Eleanor Dare sailed to the new world to start a new life.  On August 18, 1587, Eleanor gave birth to the first child born of English parents in America.  They named her Virginia after Queen Elizabeth the virgin queen. Her birth is known because John White the Governor of the settlement  and grandfather to Virginia returned to England to seek fresh supplies. When he returned 3 years later, Virginia, her parents and the other colonists were all gone.

This colony was named the Roanoke Colony in what is now North Carolina.
