As we dust off 2024 and set our sights to the future, you might be wondering what will trend for the new year when it comes to art decor. Luckily, our friends at the Pantone Institute have already figured it out. Say hello to the 2025 Color of the Year: Mocha Mousse!
Prompting thoughts of delicious chocolate and coffee, this lush warm brown is the designer’s choice for communicating feelings of comfort and connection. Check out these paintings at Seaside Art Gallery that feature this classic color!
1. Uppy Up in Nags Head Woods by Janet Groom Pierce, Oil Painting
The endearing title captures the feeling of nostalgia for many locals who come to Nags Head Woods. Marshy brown grass borders its familiar sandy trail up to the top of the dune.
2. Appalachian Brooke by David Hunter, Etching
While the coastline is a comforting place to some, the call of the mountains is stronger to others. This typical Appalachian landscape is set in sepia tone ink that closely resembles the softness of a Mocha Mousse.
3. Western Relic by Travis Humphreys, Oil Painting
Sometimes, a warm brown recalls not only familiar territory but also a historical background. The old ruins of this brown building does exactly that. As we consider its worn planks and distinct roof, we’re invited to imagine a wholesome time gone by.
4. The Barnyard by Frans Beckers, Oil Painting
This beautiful rustic painting features a slice-of-life moment on a country farm. The warm brown earth provides a humble feel and a great contrast to the bright colorful plumage of the birds.
5. Bridge to the Past by Beverly Abbot, Mixed Media
Brown colors are associated with nostalgia in addition to history. Once a practical necessity, covered wooden bridges are now admirable landmarks that tell of a past time. You can almost hear the hoofbeats and lively chatter of travelers when you observe this painting!
6. Woodside Mill by Carolyn Cohen, Etching
Here we see another sepia etching. This time, we glimpse into a water mill’s intriguing past. What would these walls say if they could talk? Every tree branch, brick, and window comes to life with texture. It turns out that Mocha Brown has the power to ignite imaginations as well as time travel.
7. August Morning by Clifford Bailey, Pastel Painting
It’s not every day we see Mocha Brown in a sunrise, but this painting shows it off with all the right notes. The brown luminescent clouds blocking the sun communicate an oncoming hot, sticky August day. This common atmosphere is typical for temperate late summer climates but tricky to master with a brush.

It goes without saying that appreciating art is a heavily visual process. Bright colors can easily impact your mood, and bold contrasts catch your attention with a dramatic visual feast. But physical art can also impact your other senses, too.
