Not to brag, but we can’t stop loving our home state. North Carolina has some of the most diverse landscapes in the country, from the Outer Banks coastline to the Piedmont forests to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Whether you live here or not, you too can escape to the Tar Heel State with our beautiful online exhibit Landscape: Art that Soothes the Soul. Take a look now and transport yourself to the great outdoors!
This scene is so fresh, you can taste the crisp snow on your tongue with just one look. Leaves filled with green life burst forth onto the scene as the leftovers of winter give way to the warm spring sun. Up ahead is a lake with gorgeous clarity, pure from any contaminants in its wild state.
Some landscapes are a perfect harmony between nature and man, and the British Cemetery on Ocracoke is a wonderful tribute. It honors four British World War II soldiers whose bodies washed ashore after a German U-boat attacked a British submarine. When locals found them, they created the cemetery to honor them. This watercolor painting captures the peace that enshrouds the trees in this sacred grove. The tiny island cemetery continues to be cherished by American and British citizens today.
One might think of Colorado or Canada when it comes to majestic pines (especially Christmas trees), but did you know North Carolina forests have noteworthy pines, too? These particular varieties are nestled in between an area known as the balds, which literally means a grassy spot on top of an Appalachian mountain with little trees. It’s the perfect place to catch an amazing view. Thanks to this acrylic painting, you won’t have to lift a foot to tour this sightseeing trip.
A lighthouse in a landscape? Why not! We love how the classic ruddy Corolla Lighthouse creates a complementary point of interest next to the mystic full moon in the dark sky. Native loblolly pines and shrubs in the foreground thrive in the sandy soil covered by pine needles. Gaze upon the scene long enough, and you might hear the soothing symphony of frogs and crickets on from a warm summer night memory.
Whether it’s North Carolina, the United States, or even another country, landscapes embrace a moment in nature at its best. Set your soul free to roam in wild anticipation during Seaside Art Gallery’s Landscape: Art that Soothes the Soul. Check out the rest of the exhibit here and find out why landscapes are considered nature’s gems inspired by the great outdoors.
