I wonder if the birds we see at the zoo are prettier than if they lived in the wild. I mean, the really, truly, are pretty birds. If they were not well fed on a balanced diet, free from the stress of predators, and had to actually work to survive, do you think they would be a bit more scruffy?
Now relating that to humans, we often have a focus on looks. We need them to attract a mate, attain success, remain in friend groups - or so we think sometimes. People go to great lengths to maintain and improve their appearance, from hair dyes to teeth whiteners, to botox, to plastic surgery. Ever wonder what we'd look like if we had to hunt, gather, fight to survive?
It's interesting how our life circumstances dictate our core values, even when we don't want to admit that they do.
