"Plain sailing" is a phrase used to describe when things flow easily and don't get complicated. I remember realizing in my high school geometry class that factors like pi, 22/7 are there just to make things work. When you can't make the equations work, you find a number and assign it a name. Then it all settles and makes sense.

We do the same thing, don't we? I do. Whenever I have a problem, and can't find an obvious solution, I immediately go seeking the work-arounds. There's always a pi that will get me to the "plain sailing" place I want to be.
