Did you know -
Seahorse couples start the day with a dance, where they circle each other, often entwining tails. It is believed to solidify their connection, similar to humans who hug or kiss or shake hands in greeting. I love this beautiful example of how physical displays of affection are important to many relationships... not just the humans.
In Virginia, there are horse trail signs painted in the same white font, at most of the Shenandoah horse trails I have seen. In a whimsical moment, I got to thinking about how the seahorse dance looks like a horseback ride, and that led me to pondering how horses have a level of empathy for humans that surpasses many other animals we bipeds have relationships with.
There is so much in nature that amazes me. How do we know whether seahorses have the same capacity for love and empathy as we do? We don't.
