Sitting at the beach, imagining I am in a castle and looking out the window, at ships that are passing in the night... These are the things I daydream about at the ocean. Close to the wind is a reference to how we often live close to the edge - not quite breaking the rules, but stretching them a bit to attain our goals. To me, the ocean demands this. In the middle of a storm, are you really going to get out the mariner's guidebook? Heck no! You are going to do what you know is right for everyone's survival. In a calm sea, are you going to spend all your time reviewing the navigation and weather maps? Of course not. You're going to soak in the sun and luxuriate in the beauty of nature for a spell.

In the end, none of us are perfect. We all sail close to the wind. BUT, as we pass each other in the night, minding our own business, we still reach out and help each other when it's necessary. We aren't perfect, but we are compassionate.
