Did you know that the pine tree is one of the most ancient of plants? Conifers as a species are three times older than flowering plants. For this reason, they symbolize human enlightenment, sometimes called the third eye. Our pineal gland is a pine cone shaped gland in the center of every human brain. It controls how we perceive light. It controls our circadian rhythm and our wake-sleep patterns. It is only second to our kidneys in having the most blood flowing through it. Many cultures consider it the link to our soul. I like to burn incense and meditate and imagine the little pine cone in my brain that keeps me awake and enlightened. I’m strange that way.
