Debra Keirce, Virginia. Oil painting 3 3/4" x 3 3/4"; frame: 5" x 5".
These starfish and conch shells basking in the sun on a seawall were too rich with color and summer memories for me to pass them by without painting them.
Something about their stillness and the undulating waves of the sea just behind them captured my eye. I love the moments that present contrasts for us to think about. The ocean is powerful, noisy, with cool colors in its depths. Its creatures are often warm or bright in hues that are gorgeous in the sunshine. Many marine animals are silent, still, floating or slowly inching their way through the currents. There are lots of life metaphors to contemplate in this moment I put down in paint.
