Sea Turtles must see so much of both the ocean and the beach. Think of it. They are one of the rare species at home in both habitats. If they could talk, oh the messages they could convey!
The Greek philosopher Theophrastus is the first recorded person  to send a note in a bottle. He did it to observe the ocean movement.
In the19th century, governments and researchers released bottles to map ocean currents. During military operations before morse code and telegrams, bottles were used for distress signals from ships. Queen Elizabeth I even had a person on staff as the official uncorked, for sensitive military messages.
Even as recently as 2005, a message in a bottle led to the rescue of 88 refugees off Costa Rica.
There's something romantic and exciting about messages in bottles. I plan to send a few myself!
