Pennies & Plums is an original oil painting by Debra Keirce. The art measures 9 1/2″ x 11 1/2″ with the frame measuring 11 1/2″ x 14″, frame included.
I love still life paintings because they bring different feelings to each viewer. Someone might see this artwork and think of the penny jar their grandmother kept on the kitchen counter. Or they might remember a time when they swallowed a plum pit and were afraid of what would happen next. Yes, I think of both of these things. But the story I thought of while painting it is about "plumbing." You see, I was a chemical engineer in the 1980's and 1990's. I designed the manufacturing suites for several pharmaceuticals. That meant working with a team to determine exactly where the pipes and valves and instruments would go to transport liquids and gases from a tank in one room to a piece of equipment in another room. Plumbing. Plumb, plum. Water.
I felt really good at the end of my workday because I knew I was a little part in a big project to bring life enhancing and life saving drugs to people who would be happier because of it. I feel and hope that I am doing the same in my art career. I am making people happier, for having stopped to consider and smile in front of my paintings.
