Have you ever been to the Outer Banks of North Carolina? It is a strand of islands in the Atlantic Ocean, with a sound between it and the mainland, and the great expanse, including the Graveyard of the Atlantic on the National Seashore, to the east.

Approximately in the middle of this strand of islands, is The Lost Colony Brewery in Nags Head, NC. They serve beer that locals and visitors who are connoisseurs of the art of beer making find stellar in quality. I like the view of the sound from their two story deck outside - especially at sunset.

Any patron should beware though. When you arrive, you are welcomed to the colony right away by the bartender named Dirt. He has worked there for as long as I can remember, and he shouts a deep throated "Hey, hey, hey!!!" and encourages everyone at the bar to shout hellos too. All eyes turn to you, and you immediately become a cherished member of the Lost Colony community. So brace yourself if you don't like being in the spotlight, and then sink into the kindness and comfort of a gathering place where you won't escape being acknowledged as the unique and wonderful individual you are on this beautiful beach!
