It’s hard to believe that the Impressionism art movement began more than two centuries ago. Its fresh, thick brushstrokes and bright joyous colors make art pieces jump to life in front of us and give them a relatable modern feel. Even today Impressionism has become the style of choice for many artists. Check out these five amazing pieces that honor the legacy of the popular genre.
You don’t have to be in an exotic place to enjoy beauty. We love how this oil painting conveys the feeling of a sunny outdoor stroll in this apartment neighborhood. Impressionism is all about finding joy and beauty in the little things of life, and the piece nails this blissful feeling.
Have you ever wondered what makes Impressionism look marvelous? One of the reasons is because artists use a technique called the “rule of thirds.” This oil painting is a prime (and literal!) example. The image is divided evenly into thirds so the viewer not only has a point of interest in the center but to the left and right as well to catch the eye. Rule of thirds is what gives artwork the “wow” factor!
Impressionism is famous for favoring movement and light over defined facial details, and this oil painting is a great example. You probably wouldn’t see this family’s faces very well up close, but when viewed a little further away, it’s clear they are having the time of their lives playing in the ocean!

This little bird is almost too cute for words! It’s clear that Impressionistic paintings are admired for their power to captivate the viewer’s emotions into the image. Note the contrast of the bird with the more subtle background. Its colorful whimsical brush strokes make the bird’s fluffy feathers irresistible.
Let’s face it, it would not be a discussion about Impressionism without a bit of romance. Not only does this oil painting express movement and light, it also expresses passion. Even from behind, it’s clear this gardener has soft feelings for someone as he tenderly handles the roses in this garden. Or perhaps, he is simply fond of the roses!
Few things can compare to the universal grace and appeal that only Impressionism can bring. Seaside Art Gallery is hosting its very own 2023 Online Exhibition Series: Impressionistic Art. See it now online while you still can!

There’s something special about finding memorabilia with the same theme as your favorite place. This is especially true when you find artwork that features our little ribbon of sand called the Outer Banks.
