Did You Know David Hunter Made These 5 Delightful Outer Banks Etchings?

An award-winning master artist, teacher, and wildlife enthusiast, David Hunter enjoys demonstrating the craft of depicting animals and the great outdoors in his etchings. His wonderful interpretations of the Outer Banks are no exception, and they often herald the celebration of classic American summers and their natural settings. Do you want to build a sand castle? Splash into summer vibes with this colorful coastal scene of families relaxing and building their sandy creations by the water. Currituck Beach Lighthouse watches over in the distance, its light carefully watching over the lives it protects. The dreamy watercolor hues create a pleasing eye-catching environment. 


2. Sidney

Life in the Outer Banks isn’t complete without becoming a friend of the local wildlife. This is a portrait of an Outer Banks raccoon that David himself met in real life. As the story goes, the fun-loving creature once visited Seaside Art Gallery every evening with a fondness for peanut butter sandwiches, and the founder Chester Smith would often treat her with one. David couldn’t resist Sidney’s adorable and mischievous demeanor, so he made an etching in her honor.



This year’s limited edition etching encapsulates all the simple Outer Banks pleasures into one. Brown pelicans fly by on a mission with a soft salty breeze over the windswept Hatteras Island dunes. It beckons fond memories of the iconic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, a famous local landmark where families gather to have fun in the sand and the surf with a healthy dose of American history. 



It’s easy to give praise to the gorgeous Outer Banks beaches, but the Inner Banks is the unsung hero that helps make them great in the first place. Once the home of the Algonquin Native Americans and then European settlers, Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge is now the sanctuary of hundreds of animal species, including the endangered Red Wolf. Its marshy landscape acts as a natural filter that keeps Outer Banks waters pure and alive. David Hunter’s majestic egrets flying over the river is a fitting tribute to this important park. 



1874 Chicamacomico is an etching by David Hunter.This lovely etching commemorates the Chicamacomico Lifesaving Station, an important piece of the U.S. Coast Guard’s history, and it’s right here in the Outer Banks. This award winning station operated for 80 years from 1874 - 1954 and saved hundreds of lives. The piece showcases every inch of the grounds in accurate detail, from the weathered boards to the roof trim and even the water cistern.
