Winter can be a tough time for many people. Sometimes the darkness and cold is outright depressing – literally. SAD, or seasonal affective disorder, is a real mental condition aggravated by winter gloom. Fortunately, there is much you can do to improve your outlook, such as viewing beautiful winter art! Here are some favorites to enjoy.
By Martha Hayden

This adorable miniature acrylic painting features a toasty red house in a classic Midwest winter scene. The impressionist brush strokes and whimsical colors are a delight through the texture of the canvas. We love how it invites the viewer to peek at the snow a little closer!

It’s all about crisp lines in this elegant watercolor painting. The atmosphere is reminiscent of crunching snow beneath your feet, a remarkable quality for an almost sepia-like piece. Its stately presence is perfect inside an office room or study.

It’s hard to believe that a snowy scene can be so colorful, but this miniature oil painting definitely pulls it off. It’s based on a quaint real-life neighborhood in Quebec, Montreal. No need for a passport with this painting!

Now let’s travel back in time to Old World England, where snow is the star of the show. This watercolor lithograph certainly resembles a Christmas card, where in spite of the snow the coziness of the scene is sure to warm the viewer’s heart all year long.

Meanwhile, there are serious winter adventures to be had back in the New World. This time, we encounter a grand snowy cliff high in the mountains out West. Normally, hikers have to adjust to these heights to prevent altitude sickness. But thanks to this oil painting, you can safely observe views like these any time you wish!

If the mere thought of heights seems dizzifying, you might feel better looking at this gorgeous snowy owl instead. Its soft fluffy feathers aren’t real, but they are painted with watercolor and real sterling silver! What a beautiful tribute to winter wildlife.

Speaking of winter animal friends, these fascinating arctic hares look like they hopped right out of the pages of Narnia. The cool tones of the snow are further highlighted by the oil paint and the rich gold frame. The hares’ thick coats are definitely well suited for the occasion. Are they talking yet?
We hope these winter wonderlands made you smile. You can see more gorgeous art right here at Seaside Art Gallery in person or online. It’s the perfect way to admire snow any time of the year. The best part is, you don’t have to get your shovel out!

Maybe you’ve seen a miniature painting before, but have you witnessed a tiny sculpture or mini with three-dimensional details so small, you would find them with a magnifying glass?
