Happy New Year! From Tokyo to London to New York City, people around the world are welcoming 2022 as the year quietly unfolds. With so many changes that have happened in this decade, it seems like 2022 is a blank canvas. What will the New Year bring? What will it be like for you? After much time and contemplation, the famous Pantone Color Institute decided to try something new. They created a brand new Color of the Year – a periwinkle shade called “Veri Peri.”
Described by Pantone as a “red violet infused blue hue,” this color has never been made before. Its color family, however, is certainly found in original art. What does this color mean? How can you follow the exciting trend? Let’s explore with artwork from Seaside Art Gallery!
Enjoying the Outdoors by Gregory Kavalec
While last year’s colors emphasized safety and comfort, Veri Peri encourages us to get out and explore! This oil painting by Gregory Kavalec embraces the playful side of curiosity and adventure. Smiling faces and pink tones further complement the fun color and atmosphere.
Cobalt and Pansies by Karen Chamblin
Purple-toned colors like Veri Peri are rare in nature, so they evoke an intriguing and mysterious air. They are also known to help spark creativity, and Veri Peri is no exception! We believe the beautiful flowers in this oil painting are a great way to show off this color. They’re painted in the Impressionism style, a classic movement known to inspire imagination.
Veri Peri’s blue undertones communicate the trust we often associate with blues, providing a bedrock in turbulent times. But its complex hue takes things one step further – it inspires courage in the face of impossibility. This animation cel from the 101 Dalmations movie is the perfect example. The scene takes place right after burglars steal the dalmatian puppies from Nanny and slip away out of sight. Talk about a time to stir up some courage!
Sometimes, courage and creativity are found in places we don’t expect, and a solution is found. That’s how what looks impossible becomes possible! The Color of the Year can also be found in unexpected places, like this gorgeous tanzanite and diamond ring. Set in 18-carat yellow gold, the estate jewelry piece is in very good condition. It might be the unexpected answer for your next gift idea!
Disney’s Alladin the Series - Abu
If there’s anything we’ve learned in the past few years, it’s that digital media is increasing in its importance to communicate, live, work, and play. According to Pantone, Veri Peri clearly represents this new emerging future, and animation plays a key role. What better way to follow the trend than to honor traditional animation with an authentic Walt Disney Studios cel?
Blue Lavender with Pink Leaves by Pauline Higgins
While 2022’s Color of the Year has a soft side, it is definitely not shy about change. This abstract enamel piece on a copper dish demonstrates a great example of the color’s transformative properties, from blue to pink to lavender again. And it looks great while doing it!
No matter what the future holds, you can embrace it and express your confidence with great art. See more artwork that features this bold color through Seaside Art Gallery online! We wish you good health and prosperity through the rest of this exciting year.
