Sweater temperatures have finally arrived here on the Outer Banks, and some folks are pretty excited about it. The motivation is understandable -- who wouldn’t want to cozy up by a beach fire in a hoodie sipping cider with your special someone under the starlit sky? It’s also a great time to hitch a hayride and pick a pumpkin in one of the nearby local farms of the Inner Banks, too.
Indeed, autumn is a special season for the Outer Banks. But of course, that means it’s time to say goodbye to summer, and that makes a lot of us very sad. Fortunately, there is art for that! These gorgeous pieces at Seaside Art Gallery have enough summer cheer to put a smile on your face any time of the year.

This classic oil painting captures the pop of summer Outer Banks colors at the grounds of Bodie Island Lighthouse. Doesn’t it look like the perfect place to go on a picnic? The viewer can, of course, with their own imagination.

One of the great things about Outer Banks beaches is that they never look the same way twice. This oil painting captures a beautiful summer evening by the ocean just like a photograph! It’s a piece that no doubt makes a memorable moment on the beach last a lifetime.

Nothing shouts “summer!” like seashells by the seashore. And this one has an entire seashore painted inside! The scale is small enough to be classified as miniature art. And yet, there is remarkable minuscule detail of what’s going on in the scene. Amazing!

Sometimes, it’s the simple things in life that matter the most. A savored moment where we pause our hectic schedules and reflect on what’s good with gratitude. This acrylic abstract painting captures that feeling into the canvas. It might not be the same as staring out into the actual ocean, but it’s pretty close!

Do you miss going out to lunch with an ocean view? We have you covered! This whimsical oil painting does a great job at capturing a classic Outer Banks tradition. It’s a fun gift idea for the foodies in your life. Another great idea: put up a window frame around the art, and it becomes an instant view from your house!

Dolphin sightings are a frequent summer treat in the Outer Banks. Why not have a year-round memento? This happy dolphin is crafted by a local artist with Intarsia, an ancient woodworking technique. The little guy sure is ready to spread some summer cheer in a home!

Summer, of course, only lasts for a season. But that doesn’t mean it can’t go out on a good note! The family in this oil painting is certainly making the most of it. They seem to take their beach time very seriously.
