Have you seen the Modern Masters Event Art Show? It is absolutely gorgeous! This year, it’s all about telling the story of the Carolina Shores. From settlers to pirates to first in flight, North Carolina had a rich heritage. And these artists at Seaside Art Gallery couldn’t wait to share it with you!
The Modern Masters Art Event features today’s artists who possess great skill and passion showing their love for North Carolina. They come from all over the United States, and their mastery of light, texture, color theory, and theme is proof that they are today’s modern masters!
Here’s some of the work you can expect to see in the art show:
Renowned for her mastery of painting light, shadows, and even glass, Debra Kierce has tried her hand at depicting the fascinating narrative of the Island Farm. It’s based on an actual replica of a 19th Century farm in Roanoke Island. What kind of crops would be grown here?
This stunning piece by Denise Horne-Kaplan captures the blissful “Banker pony” life. Note how the textures of the horses’ soft fur contrast the rugged shells in the sand. These special wild locals are descended from Spanish mustangs washed ashore long ago. Now called Colonial Spanish Mustangs, they are recognized by North Carolina as the official state horse.

What would a picnic look like on the Outer Banks in the 17th century? According to Luann Houser’s imagination, it would probably look like this. A young couple heads to the beach for a few precious moments together on a picnic, perhaps when the area established its first permanent settlements. It sure is a great view!
You may have heard of Blackbeard and Calico Jack, but did you know about the infamous Anne Bonny? In the spirit of Outer Banks pirate history, Brenda Morgan chose this fiery lady pirate as her subject. Anne Bonny plundered the seas for five years disguising herself as a man. She was eventually captured, but escaped the death penalty because she was pregnant!
Last but not least, this lovely homage to the discovery of flight was painted by Linda Wacaster. It’s a great reminder of how far we’ve come in learning how to fly all the way above the Earth, the Moon, and beyond. Did you know that the Mars rover Perseverance has a piece of the original Wright Brothers’ plane on its helicopter Ingenuity? What an amazing homage!
From oil paintings to watercolor, viewers will find amazing technique and detail in the spirit of celebrating the Outer Banks and North Carolina. The Modern Masters Event is taking place from November 27th to December 31st, so be sure to see these treasures while they’re here at Seaside Art Gallery. These pieces are selling fast. Come see this gorgeous show before it’s gone!

There’s something special about finding memorabilia with the same theme as your favorite place. This is especially true when you find artwork that features our little ribbon of sand called the Outer Banks.

Despite all the problems we encounter during the day, it’s a blessing to know that nature’s miracle of the sun gives us a colorful show each morning and night. The beauty of art allows us to enjoy it all the time in our homes and spaces.

Shiver me timbers! It’s time for a high-seas adventure in the art world. Blissful painted scenes of sailboats are an old and popular subject, especially in the Outer Banks.
