Charles Adrian Rutherford, 1868 – 1944. He was born in California, and known for his paintings of landscapes, portraits and still lifes of grapes. Artistically motivated at an early age, he studied under Chris Jorgensen. He received recognition from the German Kaiser for one of his paintings, at age 19. He regularly did painting excursions in the surrounding countryside. Many of his grape still lifes were done at the Moulton Hill Vineyard near Cloverdale. His portrait of Peter Lassen was used to illustrate a book called King Ship of Mount Lassen.
