Jean Cook grew up in Kansas, on the family farm helping with harvests and caring for the family cows, sheep and horses. Her artwork is inspired by her real-life experiences. She's a self-taught artist and has studied with well-known artists in the US and at the Kansas City Art Institute. Her paintings reflect an emphasis on the use of color, light and shadow.
Cook has won many awards in juried shows around the country. She teaches art workshops and oil/acrylic painting in the Kansas City and Paola areas. She also works with Kansas City Young Audiences teaching art in the schools. Cook’s art memberships include: AAEA Associate, Society of Animal Artists Associate Miniature Painter, Sculptors, Gravers Society of Washington DC, Heartland Art Guild.
