Lee Mims was raised on a farm in Raleigh, North Carolina. She received her Master’s Degree in Geology, University of North Carolina. Some might ask how she happened to become an artist after being trained as a scientist. Her childhood on a farm created in her a lifelong love of animals and the great outdoors and a desire to recreate the beauty that she saw around her.
Like many self-taught artists, Lee painted her passion. Soon requests from friends for portraits of their children, horses and various pets led her to start a small studio. She expanded to painting wildlife and landscapes. She studied under author - illustrator, Bill Tilton. She studied plein-air painting with master artists, John Seerey-Lester, and Heiner Hurtling. Mims exhibits in wildlife and art shows across the USA. Her clientele includes doctors, judges, educators, businessmen and women, and a US Senator.
