About The Artist

Art by W.E. (Ellie) Grumiaux Jr.W.E. (Ellie) Grumiaux Jr., died 2014. Grumiaux was a native of Norfolk, Virginia and studied art and advertising at the Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU). After 40 plus years in commercial art and advertising, Ellie retired to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 1992, where he continued painting.

His works include many Outer Banks subjects, such as lighthouses, lifesaving stations, fishing trawlers, dunes and ocean scenes. He also painted many nostalgia subjects such as old gas stations and general stores. He worked primarily with watercolor. He also created pen and ink drawings of local subjects. These have appeared in the Virginian Pilot Newspaper.
