From its amazing beaches and delicious seafood to its rich history and legendary surfing, the Outer Banks is famous for many things. But did you know that the unique natural beauty of the area inspires a community of artists who call it home? In fact, the Outer Banks has inspired many artists to showcase their talents for a long time.
As the first art gallery founded in the Outer Banks, Seaside Art Gallery is proud to continue representing local artists. Check out some of them below:
This classic view of the historic Oregon Inlet Lifesaving Station looks like you’re gazing out to the ocean from a window! Betty has lived in the Outer Banks for a long time as well as Virginia. Her well-traveled past helps her paint many different topics from a unique perspective. Instead of white watercolor paint, she uses a special 140lb. cold press paper that appears very bright and then paints around it, giving her paintings rich colors.
Doug co-founded the Post Millennium New York School and has extensive backgrounds in biology and therapy. He currently lives in the Outer Banks and loves to paint. He usually enjoys the abstract expressionist style, but this beautiful still life of a happy yellow flower vase is sure to put a smile on anyone’s face. Quality thought and emotion is communicated through each piece Doug paints.

David lives in the Roanoke island village of Manteo, where The Lost Colony outdoor theater is shown each summer. He enjoys creating wooden sculptures with a unique multidimensional inlay technique called intarsia. This scene depicting a graceful heron waiting to catch a fish is a common sight in the beautiful marshes surrounding the island.
We love the unique underwater perspective capturing the energized feel in this piece featuring a playful youth. Janet loves to paint from her Outer Banks home in Southern Shores and has won many awards for her work. She is often inspired by the colorful “slice of life” beach and rural farm scenes commonly found in the Northeastern NC area.
This vibrant painting is the proper homage to a worthy summer goodbye. Suzanne is an expert Plein Air artist who lives in Nags Head, NC. Her work is featured in shows all over the country but she especially loves painting outdoors at the beachside. She frequently teaches her workshops from her studio in the Outer Banks.
You can see even more original art by local and international artists alike at Seaside Art Gallery. From fascinating sculptures to breathtaking paintings, see it all for yourself right now or experience the sights and textures of original artwork in person at the Gallery.
Chelsea Reed is a copywriter who writes winning content, articles, blogs, and websites from her base in North Carolina. She might not be building sandcastles or swashbuckling with pirates these days, but the Outer Banks beaches continue to keep her young at heart.

There’s something special about finding memorabilia with the same theme as your favorite place. This is especially true when you find artwork that features our little ribbon of sand called the Outer Banks.

Shiver me timbers! It’s time for a high-seas adventure in the art world. Blissful painted scenes of sailboats are an old and popular subject, especially in the Outer Banks.
