The balance of light and shadow in art takes a fascinating twist when there is an object in the foreground. A common subject that Lori depicts in her scenes is a tree. Sunset Watch features an old live oak that has withstood the test of time in Kitty Hawk Bay. The fading glow kisses the tree’s shrubby leaves once more before the sun retires for the evening. Meanwhile, a Persimmon at Dawn bears witness to the first light entering the starlit sky. This dramatic painting has a dreamlike quality with the dark branches reaching for the dark heavens.

One of an artist’s greatest achievements is depicting the mastery of light in paintings.
