Despite all the problems we encounter during the day, it’s a blessing to know that nature’s miracle of the sun gives us a colorful show each morning and night. The beauty of art allows us to enjoy it all the time in our homes and spaces. Let your worries melt away as we go on a gorgeous sunrise and sunset tour in art!
Ocean sunrises are famous in the Outer Banks, but we think soundside sunsets deserve the attention too! We love how bold this local sunset looks in watercolor. The old house ruins in the water add a dramatic story of the passage of time to the piece.

Who would have thought an etching could depict a vibrant sunset? Well, this artist did. We love the passion and drama going on between the sharp contrast of the sailboats racing off into the sunset. This piece is unframed, which means you can choose however you want to display it.
If this heron’s job is to watch over the sound, he’s got it made. The Bonner Bridge is a longstanding Outer Banks landmark. It connected Hatteras Island to Bodie Island for over 50 years until it was eventually replaced by the Marc Basnight Bridge. Its remnants are now repurposed as a fishing pier.
Cowabunga! What a memorable sunset. We love the smooth transitions between the fire seen in the sky and the waves. The beach and lighthouse on the horizon have the perfect placement, creating both a sense of balance and awe in the piece.
This fun painting is inspired by the setting sun over a lesser known but just as beautiful coastal spot at the Outer Banks - the Roanoke Sound. Not quite Albemarle and too north to be Pamlico, this little sound has big views that make it a popular dining spot and a great destination to unwind with good company.
Sometimes the best art trend is a expertly painted classic. Not only will this painting never go out of style, you can tell your friends that the artist handmade the exquisite frame, too. The uplifting sunset colors cast a soothing glow over the blue horizon.
Don’t let the sun’s soft glow over the warm rosy sky fool you. A red sky cast in the morning is a sign for mariners to brace for bad storms later in the day! Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about that when you’re just looking at art. This unassuming sunrise is a gallery wrapped square that’s the perfect shape for easy decorating.
Ahh, soft sand, gentle waves and a wide open sky. This dreamy impressionistic painting captures the feeling of a heavenly beach day with little more than paint on a canvas! The weathered wood frame sets the scene’s instant soothing effects.
Looking for a change of pace? This lovely gallery wrapped painting shows off a different kind of coastal view. The sun hangs low over the marsh and bathes it in victorious light. The golden sky gives a warm toned feel over an otherwise cool toned marinescape.
Speaking of classic cool tones, here’s another lovely marsh painting which displays them at their finest. A sailboat glides lazily across the blissful scene as the sun enters its golden hour. Its 12” x 24” shape is ideal for areas on the wall that work best with rectangular shapes.
You can find original sweeping seascapes and marine art at none other than Seaside Art Gallery, the first original art gallery in the coastal Outer Banks area. Is that the sea calling your name? Discover which piece has your name on it. See the collection here.

Maybe you’ve seen a miniature painting before, but have you witnessed a tiny sculpture or mini with three-dimensional details so small, you would find them with a magnifying glass?
