There are thousands of epic scenes, historic moments. and high-sweeping fantasy worlds that are certainly stunning in the art world, and for good reason. But then there are graceful artworks that show little more than a rose, and they absolutely deserve sharing their spot in the limelight. These seemingly ordinary pieces help us find beauty in the daily world we live in, and David Hunter’s etchings are no exception. Let’s take a look at some of our favorite slice of life moments.
Few things capture the joy and excitement of life as childlike wonder, and this watercolor etching does a very good job at it. It appears a young boy has made friends with a frog! Will he catch it? What will they play? Or perhaps, as the cool kids say these days, the two are simply content with “vibing” together. Each of those options are quality life choices.
This scene of a woman shelling peas outside her home commands the recollection of simpler times. Chickens roam free in the yard as laundry dries the natural way on a clothesline. Believe it or not, this was a common sight in many Southern households not too long ago. As home farming and energy saving have recently sparked interest with more people again, the practice might not be over after all!
This watercolor etching is proof that you don’t have to have a lot of fruit to make a still life stand out. The difference between the metallic and fruit textures are remarkable! The rich colors are perfect for the decor of a kitchen or dining room area. What’s more, the versatile neutral tones of the fabric runner can pair with many kinds of styles in the home.
Here we see another classic scene from a bygone era: the milkmaid walking away from a cow. She looks down pensive with thought as she walks alone in the midst of the daily grind. What could she be pondering? Is the cow all right? Is something going on with her employer? Maybe she’s thinking about her family back home. Or maybe she pines for another life of doing something else. It’s up to the viewer’s imagination.

How does a slice of life become a masterpiece? When the artist makes the most of the moment. The detail in this etching is so exquisite, one would swear it to be a pencil drawing at first glance. Note the remarkable feat of creating contrast and a sense of depth in a dark background. So much love is expressed in this serious knitter.
The David Hunter Labor Day Event may be over, but it’s not too late to snag some gorgeous pieces of inspiration while you still can! Maybe you’ve seen a miniature painting before, but have you witnessed a tiny sculpture or mini with three-dimensional details so small, you would find them with a magnifying glass?
